Adam Warren is presently the writer/artist of EMPOWERED, an ongoing “sexy superhero comedy” published by Dark Horse Comics.
A groundbreaking artist, Warren was one of the first creators to internalize Japanese manga drawing and storytelling techniques, and utilized them in his English-language adaptation of The Dirty Pair, receiving the blessing of Japanese Dirty Pair creator Takachiho Haruka himself. Warren worked with co-writer Toren Smith and publisher Dark Horse Comics to release Dirty Pair material across the 80s, 90s, and into the 00s. Warren’s considerable writing and drawing talents were also lent to projects for various publishers, including Marvel and DC Comics, EA Games, Warner Animation, SPIN Magazine, including a fan-favourite run on Wildstorm’s GEN13 property.
In 2007, Warren released the first volume of EMPOWERED. An ‘open-minded’ cartoonist, Warren would often receive artistic commissions for very specific sorts of illustrations from fans, and began to create larger stories and settings featuring recurring characters to keep himself interested in the material. From these he created EMPOWERED, a treatise on the nature of human relationships, gender roles and expectations, and the exploitative nature of pornography. Fun, thoughtful, and self-aware, EMPOWERED is an unique graphic novel amongst the many being released today–a self-aware cheesecake book that offers surprising depth. Seven volumes have currently been published, alongside three one-shot comics and two limited edition hardcovers collecting the first six books.
