Update May 3rd, 2009: Final Guest Update!

Our final guest update sees the addition of the following guests to our already fantastic lineup. Guest of Honour Craig Yoe (USA) will be joining the Festival to promote his new book, Secret Identity: The Fetish Art of Superman's Co-Creator Joe Shuster, and our fourth French cartoonist Antoine Dode! From Canada, we have Joe Shuster Awards guests Agnes Garbowska, Marcio Takara, Alina Urosov, and Kelly Tindall, Doug Wright Awards guests Ray Fenwick and Jesse Jacobs, and Conundrum Press guests Emily Holton, Kerry Byrne, Michael Hind, Ian Sullivan Cant, and Howard Chackoicz.

Update April 17th, 2009: New guest announcements!

TCAF has announced THREE new Guests of Honour! From France, we'll be welcoming Florent Ruppert of Ruppert and Mulot, and Francois Ayroles! From Canada, we're pleased to announce that Kid Koala will be signing at TCAF on Sunday May 10th, in addition to his awesome kick-off/come-down events. We're also welcoming Canadians Cecil Castellucci and Maurice Vellekoop, Americans T. Edward Bak and Alexis Frederick-Frost, and groups and publishers Free Drawings, The Joe Shuster Awards, Microcosm Publishing, and The Beguiling. Yeah!

Update April 15th, 2009: Major Event Announcements!

We've announced most of our 2009 Events on the Events page! We're bringing you nearly a full week of great comics and graphic novel events in the city of Toronto, and partnering with a number of great organizations to do so! Our big Kick-Off Party will welcome back 2005 Guest Of Honour Kid Koala, with a massive indoor block party Thursday Night! The Festival's Opening Night is marked by two fantastic events at Harbourfront Centre, a gallery showing featuring cartoonists from 5 different countries, and an on-stage presentation and discussion featuring TCAF honoured guests Seth, Adrian Tomine, and Yoshihiro Tatsumi!

In addition, we've got two great events (one in English and one in French) with Honoured Guest Emmanuel Guibert, in partnership with Doctors Without Borders, L'Alliance Francaise, the French Consulate in Toronto, and Toronto Public Library, Book launches, film screenings, a gallery show featuring Tara McPherson with our event sponsor Magic Pony, The 2009 Doug Wright Awards, and more!

This is easily our strongest TCAF event line-up yet, and it's thanks to all of our friends, sponsors, and authors, but especially you! Yes, you! The folks who come out to support these events and who've created such wonderful demand for comics and graphic novels in Canada! Thanks a bunch!

And stick around, there's definitely more coming as we firm up venues, dates, and times. Also, our full suite of programming at TCAF, including panel discussions, readings, lectures and presentations, will become available in the next week or two.

Best,

- Christopher Butcher, Director, Toronto Comic Arts Festival

Update: April 14th, 2009

TCAF is pleased to announce the addition of Honoured Guest Scott McCloud! Scott and the whole McCloud clan will be in attendence at TCAF, courtesy of TCAF Presenting Sponsor Toronto Public Library.

Canadian publisher New Reliable Press will be debuting two new releases at the show, from Canadian cartoonists Jason Turner and Simon Roy, both of whom will be in attendance and exhibiting at the New Reliable booth!

Sad news to report, Fantagraphics Books has had to withdraw from the show this year. Unfortunately many of the books they were planning on premiering at the show will not be available in time for the event. They are comitted to returning for the next TCAF, however. Also, cartoonist John C. Ralston will no longer be able to attend this year.
